I picked my packet up at REI today, which is just a few blocks from the office. The line snaked through the store - dudes in biker apparel standing together with men wearing suits and women (fewer of them) in skirts. I eavesdropped on a guy who was dispensing advice about how to do the ride. "And the hill you really have to watch out for is - mumble mumble," he said. I poked my nose into the conversation and asked him about that hill. He said to go wide on the turn from Seward Park going uphill - many new people try to take it tight, and end up falling.
